Les Thorne

Les is a full time woodturner working from his studio in Alresford, Hampshire. He travels extensively throughout the UK, Europe and America demonstrating the art of woodturning.

Even though the majority of his work comes from kitchenware, furniture and architectural commissions, his contemporary creations are what he enjoys the most, taking influences from nature and ancient artefacts.

The natural beauty of the timber is enhanced with the use of colour, texture, carving in a lot of his work.

The Woodturner

Les has been involved with wood in some capacity for the majority of his life. He worked as a saw doctor prior to becoming Company Director of the family timber mill.

However, 1998 saw another change of direction for Les. He felt that it was a natural progression to become a full time woodturner.

In 2001 Les was accepted onto the Register of Professional Turners.

In 2007 Les was awarded the “The Worshipful Company of Turners” bursary to further his exploration into the world of artistic and sculptural woodturning.
